"[The retreat was] Life giving, Soul nourishing!" - Suzanne, California
The 2018 Retreat
The At Home in Your Heart Retreat
blew us all away! 15 women from all over the United States gathered for 4 days to share the experience of self-understanding, compassion and connection. It was such a treat to work with the Dancing Spirit Ranch staff and Chef Ananda Johnson. As hosts, we could focus on the need of our participants instead of running around overwhelmed. We felt carried and cared for the whole time!
Our participants seemed to have the time of their lives. There was laughter, tears, dancing. Friendships were built, and relationships with self and others transformed. It is an honor to be part of the greatness of the bold women's stories who have now forever impacted our lives, too. You can read their testimonials at the bottom of this page.
The Daring Way
-
The 2018 Retreat utilized Brené Brown's Daring Way curriculum, which was co-facilitated by Sara Hughes-Zabawa and her mother, Toni Hughes, both Certified Daring Way™ facilitators.
-
The Daring Way method was designed for work with individuals, couples, families, work teams, and organizational leaders. It can be facilitated in clinical, educational, and professional settings.
-
During the process Sara and Toni guided us through topics such as vulnerability, courage, shame, and worthiness.
-
Participants were invited to examine the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that are holding them back and identify the new choices and practices that would move them toward more authentic and wholehearted living.
-
The primary focus was on developing shame resilience skills and developing daily practices that transform the way we live, love, parent, and lead.

Fearless Self-Love
-
Outside of the Daring Way, and often outside of any building at the ranch, we practiced gentle and restorative Yoga and multiple forms of meditation. Andrea Bachman, Certified Yoga Health Coach and 500 Hour Professional Level Kripalu Yoga Instructor, guided us on our mats and along the many paths across the gorgeous ranch to reconnect with hearts, digest the material, and clear our minds.
-
Meal times were also an act of self-love. Our chef, Ananda Johnson provided local and seasonal foods that met individual dietary needs and provided an overall sense of health and comfort
-
For one meal, Andrea hosted an Ayurvedic Cooking workshop in which participants made the meal. Sharing food is as much about connection as nutrition!

at home in our hearts

“How much we know and understand ourselves is critically important, but there is something that is even more essential to living a more wholehearted life: loving ourselves.”
